What is Psychotherapy for Mental Health issues? (Continued)

The term Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, just like everybody has physical health everybody also has mental Health. Our mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Over a person’s lifetime their physical health can have ups and downs, sometimes we can all feel in good physical health and sometimes our physical health can be not so good. There can be any number of reasons why somebodies’ physical health can deteriorate, an accident, not looking after ourselves, the wear and tear of everyday living, and this is when we would normally see a medical professional to get some help to return to good physical health. Mental Health acts in the same way, like everybody can have good and bad physical health everybody can have good and bad Mental Health throughout their lifetime.

Sometime Mental Health can be called “Emotional Health” or “Wellbeing” and plays an important role in our daily living, just as important as physical health. 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a Mental health problem at some point in their lives. and with the right help the majority of them recover and go on to lead healthy, productive and satisfying lives. Mental Health problems are not caused by personal weakness and are therefore not going to be cured by personal strength and just “pulling themselves out of it”. Most people with Mental Health problems show great strength and resilience to live with what can sometimes be very distressing thoughts and feeling for what can sometimes be long periods of time. However, there are many things that those with Mental Health problems (or in fact everyone) can do to improve Mental Health- Eating a good diet, getting enough sleep, regular exercise, and learning techniques to manage stress and build new relationships with our thoughts and feelings.
